Doodle Jump is a one-button-free climbing game with a very simple premise: a four-legged doodle bounces upward on its own, and your only job is to land on platforms and keep rising. How to play

The character jumps automatically every time it touches a platform, so you never press a button to hop. You steer sideways with the left and right arrow keys or A and D. The screen wraps around horizontally in the classic game, so drifting off one edge brings you back on the other side, which you can use to reach a platform that is far across. On a phone you steer by touch instead of a keyboard.

Platforms are not all alike. Plain ones are safe, moving ones slide back and forth so you need to time the landing, and fragile ones break once you touch them, so treat those as something to avoid rather than rely on. Springs and similar boosts launch you much higher than a normal bounce, and they are the fastest way to gain height. Controls in this particular build can vary slightly, so if Up or Space does something in your version, it is an extra on top of the left and right steering.

Tips

• Make small corrections. Holding a direction down for a long time sends you overshooting the platform you wanted.
• Look one platform ahead while you are still in the air, so your steering is already underway when you land.
• Do not chase every boost. A spring that costs you a hard sideways swing across the screen can leave you with no platform below you.
• Use the screen wrap deliberately when a gap is wide, rather than steering the long way around.
