Hearts unblocked: play Hearts online free right here in your browser — no download, no sign-up, works on a school Chromebook.
Hearts is a time-tested four-player card game where the main objective is simple: avoid taking points. Every heart you capture in a trick adds one penalty point to your score, while the dreaded Queen of Spades adds thirteen. The match continues over multiple rounds until a player reaches a set point threshold, at which point the person with the fewest accumulated points claims victory.
Between long sessions of automated progress in games like Clicker Heroes, sitting down for a thoughtful hand of Hearts provides a satisfying mental switch. Instead of watching numbers climb automatically, each trick demands attention, risk management, and tactical card play. It runs instantly in your web browser with no downloads or account creation required.
How the game works
Each round begins with a complete 52-card deck dealt evenly among four players, giving everyone 13 cards. In traditional hands, players choose three cards from their hand to pass to an opponent before play begins. The player holding the Two of Clubs leads the first trick.
Play proceeds clockwise around the table. You must always follow the suit that was led if you hold a card of that suit. If you are void in that suit, you are free to discard any card, making it the perfect chance to slough off high hearts or the Queen of Spades onto an opponent. The player who played the highest card of the suit led wins the trick and leads the next one. Hearts cannot be led until someone breaks hearts by discarding one on a previous trick.
Shooting the Moon
While the standard strategy revolves around dodging penalty points, there is a high-risk, high-reward exception known as shooting the moon. If you manage to win all thirteen hearts and the Queen of Spades in a single hand, you receive zero points while hitting every other opponent with 26 penalty points. Pulling this off requires holding powerful high cards across every suit and running the table without losing control of a single trick.
Helpful strategies
- Pass dangerous cards: In passing rounds, consider getting rid of high spades like the Ace, King, or Queen unless you have enough low spades to protect them.
- Create voids early: Try to exhaust your holding in one short suit during the early tricks so you can discard point cards whenever that suit is led.
- Track the Queen of Spades: Keep close watch on which spades have been played so you are not caught leading into a trap.
- Count hearts: Pay attention to when hearts are broken and how many have landed in tricks before leading high cards.
